There are Big Results in Establishing ClarityAidan Beck
I recently got together with an old colleague and good friend of mine. We were sharing in our challenges and our achievements over the past year. He went through a list of five tasks he wanted to do in his business in 2017 as the VP of Sales. I asked him what the tasks were and he gladly listed them off. Then I asked him a deeper question. Why? Why was it important that you achieve these self-imposed assignments?
He replied with the core reasons he felt they were critical. All his explanations led back to his greater mission; to differentiate his company in the market place so he could reach his long-term goals. This dear friend of mine is the kind of guy who truly knows what he wants, then puts his head down to achieve his objectives. He knows that getting really clear with his vision and the reasons behind his goals is the first step.
Clarity on what we want is what drives us to execute on the very behaviours that will lead us to reach our goals. When we are clear, it propels us forward, even in the most challenging times. But getting clear on what we want is sometimes overlooked and often, people don’t take the time to do the work. You must dig deep within yourself to know what you’re working toward and the reason. It’s the reason behind the ‘why’ that empowers us.
As a leader in an organization or a business owner, clear goals and objectives are essential to the success of the business. Those who establish clear goals tend to outperform everyone else. Being specific with a timeframe for achieving an outcome originates from a profound level of awareness on the reasons you will work through the challenges that life presents. Some people get up at 5am to get their exercise in prior to their workday so when they get home they can spend the evening with their kids. The workout routine is important because they want to be able to play sports, reduce their stress, it’s their health insurance policy
Get clear on your goals! Once you have this sense of clarity it brings awareness to everything you do, the result; you will make better present- moment decisions. You will be focused on what you need to do and what not to do so you can reach your goals with faster and with purpose.
